A New York City notice indicated that a Pontiac Trans Am was recorded traveling at 59 km/h in a 40 km/h zone in Brooklyn on 22/4. The Volo Museum received a letter on 7/5 stating the fine for this traffic violation is 50 USD.
Representatives for the Volo Museum stated that the vehicle cited is merely a non-moving model, designed solely for display, and has been exhibited for many years.
Traffic camera footage revealed the offending vehicle to be a black Trans Am bearing a California license plate "KNIGHT". This plate matches the KITT car from the 1980s television series "Knight Rider" and is identical to the plate on the museum's registered car. Approximately 20 KITT cars were built for the show, with five original vehicles and numerous replicas, including the one at the museum, remaining today.

New York City records show the "KNIGHT" license plate is also associated with 5 other unpaid traffic violations dating back to late 2024. It remains unclear how the city's traffic camera system linked this license plate to the Volo Museum.
Jim Wojdyla, the museum's marketing director, stated that the institution is requesting a court hearing to challenge the fine. "We want to know who was driving the violating vehicle", Wojdyla said, "It could be from another museum, or someone who enjoys building these replica cars themselves."
According to the California Department of Transportation, an individual with the surname Knight renewed the registration for the "KNIGHT" license plate in March.
The Volo Museum updated its social media page with the incident, posting: "Home of the famous KITT car that got a speeding ticket in New York despite never leaving Illinois". In another post, museum representatives wrote: "Does anyone have David Hasselhoff's phone number? He owes us 50 USD."
