The Japandi refrigerator embodies a design philosophy blending Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian warmth and practicality, catering to a sophisticated lifestyle.
Seamless and flush design
To achieve a seamless aesthetic, Toshiba engineered the refrigerator to an exact 600 mm depth, conforming to premium European kitchen cabinet standards. Integrating bottom-mounted heat dissipation technology and hinges that open up to 125 degrees, the refrigerator achieves 0 cm rear clearance. This allows it to sit flush against the wall, preventing any gaps or installation errors.
A Toshiba representative stated that the Japandi refrigerator's design "establishes a new built-in standard," overcoming the issues of uneven alignment and excess gaps found in traditional built-in refrigerators. With older models, homeowners often had to pull the refrigerator out by 50-80 mm to open the doors, or leave 50-100 mm gaps on the sides to prevent heat buildup.

Beyond ensuring a flush and seamless aesthetic, the Toshiba Japandi refrigerator's design also "breaks the limits" of built-in refrigerator capacity. The manufacturer uses vacuum insulation panels, which are three times thinner than traditional polyurethane materials, to maximize internal storage. Additionally, a horizontally arranged cooling system creates a deeper freezer compartment and a more spacious fresh food compartment compared to traditional vertical evaporator coils that occupy more room. "Thanks to this design, the Japandi refrigerator achieves the standard of 'slim on the outside, spacious on the inside,' optimizing every centimeter of storage," a Toshiba representative stated.

Specifically, the Japandi Flagship series offers a capacity of 530 liters (approximately a 4% increase in storage space), meeting the food storage needs of modern families. The Japandi Kumo refrigerator has a capacity of 520 liters (model GR-RF680 - two vertical and two horizontal doors) and 521 liters (model GR-RF681 - four vertical doors) — approximately 2% more spacious than traditional built-in refrigerator models.
Advanced food preservation
According to the manufacturer, regardless of its aesthetics, a refrigerator's most crucial function remains food preservation. The Japandi refrigerator series integrates technologies from the Orgin Fresh ecosystem. These include preventing odor mixing and bacterial growth (Pure Air technology in Flagship models; Pure Bio technology with two independent cooling systems in Kumo models), maintaining humidity with Hydro Fresh, and deep freezing technology at -30 degrees C. This ensures fresh and cooked foods do not mix odors and significantly minimizes the risk of cross-contamination, a common oversight in many households.
The -30 degrees C deep freezing temperature is particularly effective as it forms smaller ice crystals, limiting damage to food cell structures. When stored at this temperature, thawed meats, fish, and vegetables retain their freshness, texture, and nearly intact nutrients. "This feature, combined with the large storage capacity, is a significant advantage for busy individuals or those who regularly store large quantities of ingredients for extended periods," the company representative emphasized.

The Japandi Flagship refrigerator, first launched in Vietnam in 2024, made a significant impact among refrigeration technology enthusiasts and high-end consumers. Its model RF690WI-PGV (67) was honored as "Refrigerator with Impressive Design" at the Tech Awards 2024.
Building on the minimalist, space-fitting design of the Japandi Flagship and Toshiba Lifestyle's 95 years of research and development, Toshiba launched the Japandi Kumo in Q1 this year. The Japandi Kumo model is priced at approximately 26-29 million VND, while the initial Japandi Flagship Series products were around 50 million VND. The Japandi Kumo model completes the Japandi product portfolio, making the "Japandi lifestyle" accessible to a wider user base and bringing tranquility and premium aesthetics to more homes.

Beyond seamlessly fitting into European kitchen cabinets, the Japandi Kumo refrigerator can also be placed in the study rooms of young families, suitable for apartments and condominiums, or stand-alone in spaces like coffee shops and art galleries. The refrigerator's exterior features a Jade Cloud color, inspired by the 2026 color trend announced by the Pantone Color Institute (US), evoking warmth, purity, and lightness in any space. Its 9-layer tempered glass surface is fingerprint-resistant and scratch-resistant, helping the Japandi Kumo maintain its appearance over time. The refrigerator can also be controlled via the TSmartLife app on a smartphone.
