Tang Wei, from Xinbu County, Hunan Province, was accepted into a technical college in Changsha City and is set to enroll in September. From a humble background with younger siblings also attending school, Tang left home in early May to work and self-fund his tuition.
Before reaching Changsha, Tang cycled approximately 100 km and then took a train. He arrived with 2,000 yuan (approximately 7 million dong). After purchasing essentials like a suitcase, tent, sleeping bag, and mattress, very little money remained.
The only job Tang could secure was food delivery. During his first week, he earned about 200 yuan. However, one-half of this amount was used for compensation after his electric bicycle accidentally scratched another vehicle.

Initially, Tang set up his tent in a park. However, after being harassed by a group of strangers, he relocated to sleep under a bridge. In late May, heavy rains in the area made his temporary living conditions even more challenging. Tang possessed only four sets of clothes, including his delivery uniform. Accompanying him was a small dog named Bobo, a gift from his grandfather. "I need him more than he needs me," Tang stated.
A local reporter chronicled Tang's predicament, and his story quickly gained widespread attention across social media platforms. The images of the young man working diligently and living frugally to pursue his educational aspirations moved many people.
Residents of Changsha City contributed money and essential supplies. Wang Jing, an animal welfare volunteer, contacted Tang, offering to provide food for Bobo and care for the dog while Tang attends college.

A manager from the Hunan-based Sany Group offered Tang a three-month paid position as a warehouse guard, which included free accommodation and meals. At his new workplace, Tang now resides in a dormitory equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, hot water, and dines at the company cafeteria.
"I read his story and recognized his resilience and diligence. I wanted to create an opportunity for him to earn money through his own efforts," the manager explained.
Tang expressed his surprise and gratitude for the community's support. "I will study hard and build a bright future to repay this city," he affirmed.
