air compressor explosion in TP HCM kills one

A man died after being struck by fragments from an exploding air compressor, and two others were injured following the blast at a seafood processing cold storage facility in Long Hai commune on the afternoon of february 26.

Around 10:30 h, residents heard a loud explosion emanating from the cold storage area of Hang Vinh Co., Ltd., a seafood processing facility in Lo Voi hamlet, Long Hai commune. Upon checking, they found one man dead at the scene and two others injured. The injured were taken for emergency treatment, and authorities were notified.

According to an initial report from Long Hai commune authorities, Doan Van Nam, 51 years old, an air compressor repairman, was discussing repairs to the air compressor system with Nguyen Ngoc Trung, 36 years old, the company manager, when the air compressor unexpectedly exploded.

The explosion caused multiple injuries to Nam. Fragments from the air compressor flew about 10 m, striking Pham Van Hai, 41, and Tran Van Minh, 47, who were cleaning fish drying racks nearby.

Minh died at the scene; Hai suffered a broken leg and was rushed to the emergency room.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the labor accident.
