Boat carrying 15 people sinks

A fishing boat with 15 people on board sank after being hit by waves upon leaving La Gi Port. All crew members were rescued, and authorities are currently working to salvage the vessel, which occurred on the morning of 3/2.

The incident took place around 5:20 when a fishing boat, powered by a 200 horsepower engine and measuring over 12 meters in length, departed La Gi Port. Captained by Tran Thai, 54, a resident of Tien Thanh ward, the vessel was struck by waves and sank immediately at the sea mouth.

The captain and 14 crew members were promptly rescued by nearby fishermen using traditional basket boats and brought safely ashore. Following the incident, the Phuoc Loc Border Guard Post dispatched 10 officers and soldiers to coordinate with other local forces and equipment to assist in the salvage operation of the sunken boat.

Local fishermen attribute the danger in the area to severe silting at the La Gi sea mouth, which has made navigation perilous for many vessels. A project to dredge and clear the channel is currently underway to address this issue. This incident follows a previous fishing boat sinking in the same area on 1/2, which tragically resulted in one fatality.
