Brick boat capsizes, father dies, 6-year-old daughter missing

A brick-laden boat anchored on Luong The Tran canal (formerly Cai Nuoc district) unexpectedly sank overnight, leaving a 46-year-old man dead and his 6-year-old daughter missing.

Around 23h on 15/5, a boat carrying bricks, anchored and waiting for high tide on a section of the canal in Nam Dam hamlet, Luong The Tran commune, met with disaster. On board were Nguyen Huu Kinh (from An Giang), his wife, and their 6-year-old daughter.

Early this morning, residents near the scene heard cries for help and rushed to assist. They brought the victims ashore and reported the incident to the police. Mr. Kinh died, his wife was hospitalized, and their daughter is still missing.

Initial verification suggests the boat may have taken on water, leading to its sinking. Authorities are currently inspecting the quantity of bricks on board to clarify the situation.

Police forces, in coordination with the Hoa Trung Waterway Traffic Station, are securing the scene, salvaging the boat, searching for the missing victim, and regulating traffic through the area.

Luong The Tran canal, approximately 10 km long, serves as an important local waterway, connecting the Ong Doc River with the Ganh Hao River.
