On the evening of 4/2, a truck carrying about 10 cows traveling on the Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet expressway from Nha Trang towards Sai Gon (near Song Luy commune, Binh Thuan) unexpectedly had its rear door open. The cows fell onto the road, panicking and running amidst high-speed traffic.
The incident forced many drivers to brake sharply, swerve to avoid the animals, and pull over to the emergency lane, causing traffic in the area to become chaotic. Two vehicles behind struck the herd, resulting in the death of two cows.
Some other vehicles sustained minor damage to their front and body but could not stop in the dark. All drivers and passengers were safe. Authorities later arrived to manage the scene.
Traffic Police patrolling the expressway reported that the cows were being transported by truck from Ninh Thuan (Khanh Hoa) to Dong Nai. Upon realizing the incident, the driver stopped the vehicle to address the problem. As of this morning, the owner has not located 6 of the cows. Authorities are investigating the cause.
The Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet expressway, over 100 km long, connects Binh Thuan with provinces in the South Central region and opened in 2023. The route helps alleviate congestion on National Route 1 and shortens travel times. However, it has recently seen frequent accidents due to high traffic volume.
