Earlier, on the afternoon of 26/2, at km159+350 of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, in Tan Hop commune, Lao Cai province, a Hanoi-plated car also crashed into a sheet metal barrier. A passenger in the front seat was impaled by an iron bar.
Authorities and residents had to cut away the impaling iron bar to allow medical personnel to take the victim to the emergency room.
The Hanoi - Lao Cai Expressway spans over 260 km, passing through three provinces and cities: Hanoi, Phu Tho, and Lao Cai. The section where these three accidents occurred currently has only two lanes of traffic and no solid median divider. It is currently fenced off for expansion, with the speed limit reduced from 70-80 km/h to 50 km/h. The project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
