On 21/3, the Hang Xanh Traffic Police Team, part of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department, issued a decision to fine the male driver for opening his car door unsafely, as stipulated by Decree 168/2024. Additionally, 10 points were deducted from his driver's license for this violation.
Earlier, the man was driving a 7-seater car on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh street, heading from Hang Xanh roundabout towards Binh Trieu bridge. Nearing the Nga 5 Dai Liet Si intersection in Binh Thanh ward, the driver unexpectedly opened the left door. A motorbike, ridden by a young man approaching from behind, collided with the door and subsequently fell into an adjacent car.
The collision caused no injuries. However, the car driver subsequently left the scene despite being asked to stay and resolve the matter. A dashcam from a vehicle behind recorded the entire incident.
During questioning by the police, the violator stated that the car door was not fully closed, so he opened it to re-close it. Believing the collision was minor, he continued driving. When someone knocked on his door and asked him to stop, the driver, fearing a staged scam, did not pull over.
After the video of the incident circulated on social media, the driver proactively contacted the involved parties to offer compensation.
