Driver pushes traffic police officer, flees after illegal turn in Hanoi

After making an illegal left turn and being asked to stop, a driver drove his car forward, pushing a traffic police officer, then fled.

On 21/7, the Hanoi Police Department's Traffic Police Division announced they had transferred a 30-year-old driver from Thanh Hoa to Tu Liem Ward Police for further investigation into his act of disobeying orders from law enforcement.

Earlier, around 8:20 h on 20/7, while on duty at the Pham Hung - Nguyen Hoang intersection, a task force from Road Traffic Police Team 6 detected a Ford Territory car with a Thanh Hoa license plate making an illegal left turn at a prohibited intersection.

When signaled to stop for inspection, the driver refused to comply. Instead, he drove the car forward, forcing a traffic police officer to retreat about 15 m, before fleeing the scene.

That same evening, traffic police identified the driver and summoned him for questioning. At the police station, the male driver admitted to disobeying the traffic police officer's orders. Tu Liem Ward Police is continuing to investigate the incident.

According to Decree 168/2024, drivers of automobiles who disobey orders or instructions from traffic controllers or traffic police will face a fine of 18-20 million VND. For motorbike riders, the fine is 4-6 million VND. Offenders will also have 4 points deducted from their driver's license and may have their license suspended for one to five months. If the action leads to serious consequences, the offender will face criminal prosecution.
