On the morning of 18/8, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on 2/9, the Politburo and Secretariat held a meeting for current and former Politburo and Secretariat members, as well as Party Central Committee members of the 13th tenure who were not re-elected for the 14th tenure.
During the meeting, General Secretary, President To Lam presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to five former Politburo members: former President Luong Cuong, former Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, former Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac, former Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, and former Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen.
These individuals were recognized for their immense and outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
Party and State leaders also presented First and Second-class Independence Orders to former Party Central Committee members who achieved exceptional accomplishments during their service, contributing to the building of socialism and safeguarding the Fatherland.

Speaking at the gathering, General Secretary, President To Lam noted that in various capacities and periods, former Party and State leaders contributed to formulating policies, protecting revolutionary achievements, paving the way for reform and integration, and building a foundation for national development.
According to him, the current generation inherits not only the nation's stature, potential, and position but also the courage, experience, and unfinished tasks. "This is a valuable legacy, and a profound reminder of the honor and responsibility of succession for the next generation," the General Secretary, President said.
Reflecting on the 81-year journey, particularly the 40 years of Doi Moi (Reform), he affirmed Vietnam's right to be proud of the achievements built by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the people. From a nation exhausted by war, besieged and embargoed, Vietnam has risen to become an upper-middle-income developing country, deeply integrated, with strengthened defense and security, and an increasingly enhanced international standing.
The General Secretary, President stated that these achievements include important contributions from generations of Party and State leaders and former leaders. Recognizing this truth fosters appreciation for inheritance, maintains solidarity and unity, and prevents anyone from claiming shared achievements as individual merit.
The Party and State leader emphasized that the tasks ahead allow no complacency, hesitation, or self-satisfaction. The higher the position, the more officials must set examples, uphold honor, integrity, dare to think, act, and take responsibility for the common good; they must not avoid or gloss over shortcomings.
He called for continued control of power, resolute prevention of corruption, waste, and negativity; strict handling of violations, while protecting innovative officials who work for the nation and its people. The streamlined apparatus must be truly lean, strong, effective, efficient, and impactful. Each task needs clear objectives, work, implementers, responsibilities, deadlines, resources, and results; the mindset that only facilitates agencies and officials but creates difficulties for the people must be resolutely eliminated.
The General Secretary, President expressed his hope that former Party and State leaders will continue to accompany, contribute effort and wisdom; consolidate solidarity and transmit courage, experience, and leadership culture to generations of officials.
He concluded that the most fitting gratitude to previous generations is the responsibility and actions of the current generation; and the highest responsibility to future generations is to build a solid foundation and create better conditions for the country's continued development.
