Former Bac Lieu provincial chairman recommended for disciplinary action

The Central Inspection Committee has recommended that competent authorities consider disciplinary action against Duong Thanh Trung, former deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee and former chairman of the Bac Lieu provincial People's Committee.

During its 8th session, the Central Inspection Committee reviewed and proposed disciplinary action against Party members in the Ca Mau provincial Party Committee (which included Bac Lieu before 7/2025). The committee concluded that Duong Thanh Trung, former deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee and former chairman of the Bac Lieu provincial People's Committee, degenerated in political ideology, ethics, and lifestyle. He violated Party regulations and state laws, along with rules forbidding Party members from certain actions and failing in his responsibility to set an example. According to a communique issued on the afternoon of 7/7, Trung's violations "caused very serious consequences, severely impacting the prestige of the Party organization, locality, and workplace, to the extent that disciplinary action must be taken." Consequently, the Central Inspection Committee recommended that competent authorities consider disciplinary action against him.

Born in 1961 in Phuoc Long district, Duong Thanh Trung holds a master's degree in law and advanced political theory. He previously served as head of the provincial Party Committee's Organization Commission and secretary of the Bac Lieu city Party Committee. He was elected deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee at the Bac Lieu provincial Party Congress in late 10/2015. Trung served as chairman of the Bac Lieu provincial People's Committee from 12/2015 until he was relieved of the position in 11/2020.

In connection with similar violations, the Central Inspection Committee also proposed that competent authorities discipline Nguyen Phuong Thao, former secretary of the Quang Ninh provincial Youth Union; Nguyen The Minh, former secretary of the Binh Lieu commune Party Committee in Quang Ninh province; and Do Truong Giang, former director of the Lao Cai provincial Department of Industry and Trade.
