Hanoi bans vehicles on many central streets for two days

Hanoi will ban and restrict vehicles on many central streets on 9-10/7 to serve activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the People's Security Force's Traditional Day.

Hanoi's police department announced traffic bans and restrictions on several central streets for two days, 9-10/7. These measures are to ensure security, order, and traffic safety during events marking the 80th anniversary of the People's Security Force's Traditional Day (12/7/1946-12/7/2026). The anniversary celebration includes the "Peaceful Homeland" Gala program and various exhibitions, taking place from 9 to 12/7.

Specifically, all vehicles will be prohibited from traveling on Dinh Tien Hoang street, stretching from Tran Nguyen Han street to Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, between 8h and 23h on 9/7. Additionally, the city will temporarily ban or restrict vehicles on 29 other streets in the Hoan Kiem Lake area and its vicinity. These streets include: Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thai To, Ngo Quyen, Ly Thai To, Tran Nguyen Han, Nguyen Huu Huan, Cau Go, Hang Gai, Hang Bong, Luong Van Can, Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Le Lai, Le Thach, Hang Khay, Ba Trieu, Hang Bai, Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Hung Dao, Hai Ba Trung, Le Thanh Tong, Phan Chu Trinh, Tran Quang Khai, Tran Khanh Du, Hang Trong, Nha Tho, Nha Chung, Quang Trung, and Ly Quoc Su.

The temporary ban applies to trucks with a carrying capacity of 500 kg or more and passenger buses with 16 seats or more. Exceptions are made for city buses, waste collection vehicles, emergency response vehicles, and authorized vehicles with protective insignias. Personal oto and motorbikes will also face restricted access on these designated streets.

To alleviate potential congestion, the Hanoi Police Department has outlined diversion routes for traffic. Vehicles traveling from the east and northeast areas, such as Gia Lam and Long Bien, towards the west and northwest, including Dong Da and other western parts of the city, or vice versa, are advised to use Nhat Tan Bridge, Vinh Tuy Bridge, or Thanh Tri Bridge. After crossing, drivers should follow dike roads 401, Yen Phu, Thanh Nien, or Ring Road 3.

Similarly, vehicles traveling from northern areas like Tay Ho and Dong Anh to southern areas such as Hoang Mai and Thanh Tri, or vice versa, are directed to use Nhat Tan Bridge or Thang Long Bridge. From there, they should proceed along Vo Chi Cong, Pham Van Dong, Ring Road 2, or Ring Road 3.

The Hanoi Police Department has also requested the Department of Construction to coordinate in adjusting city bus routes to align with the traffic diversion plan. The public is advised to comply with instructions from functional forces when traveling during the event period.
