General Secretary To Lam and nine Politburo members re-elected to 14th Central Committee

General Secretary To Lam, along with nine Politburo members from the 13th term, have been re-elected by the 14th Party Congress to the 14th Central Committee for the 2026-2031 term.

According to the results of the Central Committee election announced on the evening of 22/1 at the 14th Party Congress, 10 Politburo members and nine Secretariat members from the 13th term were re-elected to the 14th Central Committee. This marks General Secretary To Lam's 4th consecutive term on the Central Committee, spanning from the 11th to the 14th terms.

The nine other Politburo members from the 13th term re-elected to the 14th Central Committee include: National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; Permanent Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu; President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Head of the Central Organization Commission Le Minh Hung; General, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang; General, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang; Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc; General, Head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army Nguyen Trong Nghia; and Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Do Van Chien.

The nine Secretariat members from the 13th term re-elected to the 14th Central Committee are: General Secretary To Lam; Permanent Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu; President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Head of the Central Organization Commission Le Minh Hung; Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Trinh Van Quyet; Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang; General, Head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army Nguyen Trong Nghia; and Permanent Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Le Minh Tri.

General Secretary To Lam, 69 years old, hails from Hung Yen province. He has served as a Central Committee member for 4 terms: the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th; a Politburo member for two terms: the 12th and 13th; and a National Assembly delegate for two terms: the 14th and 15th.

After studying at the Central Police School, now known as the People's Security Academy, he began his career at Political Protection Department 1. He then served as Deputy Head of Political Protection Department 1, Head of Political Protection Department 3, and later at the General Department of Security. In 2009, while holding the rank of major general, he was appointed Director General of General Department of Security 1 by the Prime Minister.

In August 2010, he became Deputy Minister of Public Security, a position he held until April 2016 when he was appointed Minister of Public Security. In early 2019, he was promoted to the rank of general, becoming the 4th person in the history of the People's Public Security to hold the highest rank.

In May 2024, General To Lam was elected President by the National Assembly. Three months later, the 13th Central Committee elected him General Secretary. He served as both General Secretary and President for two months, and has held the position of General Secretary since October 2024.
