Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway to open for traffic on 30/4

The Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway is expected to reopen for traffic from 30/4, approximately half a month later than scheduled, following a temporary closure for technical work.

The Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway is set to reopen for traffic on 30/4, a slight delay from its original plan. This reopening follows a temporary closure initiated in mid-march to address various technical issues and ensure the safety and quality of the route. Before its official operation, the My Thuan Project Management Board, the project's investor, will invite regulatory and professional agencies to inspect the conditions for its use, ensuring all work is completed in april.

The more than 73 km section of the expressway was initially opened on 19/1. However, it was temporarily halted to complete crucial items such as drainage ditches, slope reinforcement, concrete shoulders, and to address localized subsidence at some bridge joints. This additional work was necessary to ensure the structural integrity and long-term safety of the expressway. While the route was initially planned to reopen on 15/4, the construction unit required additional time to finalize technical aspects and assess post-remediation quality.

The Hau Giang – Ca Mau expressway is an integral part of the larger Can Tho – Ca Mau project, spanning 111 km with a total investment exceeding 27,500 billion VND. This significant infrastructure development is designed to shorten travel times, reduce logistics costs, and enhance connectivity for the entire Mekong Delta region.

Upon its reopening, the expressway is expected to significantly alleviate congestion on national route 1, particularly during the peak 30/4 holiday period, providing a smoother and more efficient travel option for motorists.

During the road closure, vehicles traveling from Can Tho to Ca Mau were advised to use the Can Tho – Hau Giang expressway to IC5 interchange, then turn onto national route 61 or follow the Quan Lo – Phung Hiep route before rejoining national route 1.
