National Assembly to elect new state president, prime minister today

On 7/4, the National Assembly will elect the state president and prime minister via secret ballot, continuing the process of consolidating state leadership positions for the 2026-2031 term.

In the morning, the National Assembly will begin the process of electing the state president. The National Assembly Standing Committee will present a list of nominees for deputies to discuss and vote on. Following this, the National Assembly will conduct a secret ballot, after which the Vote Counting Committee will work and report the results.

From 9:15 AM, the session will be broadcast live on television and radio. The National Assembly will hear the draft resolution on the election of the state president, explanations, and feedback before voting to approve it. Immediately after, the state president will take the oath of office and deliver an inaugural address.

Later in the morning, the National Assembly will hold a private session to vote on the resolution regarding the organizational structure of the government for the 2026-2031 term. The legislative body will also hear reports on the results of approving personnel for the vice chairpersons of the Ethnic Council, vice chairpersons of various committees, and full-time National Assembly deputies.

In the afternoon, the state president will present a list of nominees for the National Assembly to elect the prime minister, vice state president, chief justice of the Supreme People's Court, and prosecutor general of the Supreme People's Procuracy. After discussing and approving the list, the National Assembly will proceed with a secret ballot to elect the new prime minister.

From 3:00 PM, the session will be broadcast live as the National Assembly votes on the resolution to elect the prime minister. The prime minister will then take the oath of office and deliver an inaugural address.

From 3:30 PM, the National Assembly will hold a private session to elect the vice state president, chief justice of the Supreme People's Court, and prosecutor general of the Supreme People's Procuracy via secret ballot.

At 4:40 PM, the National Assembly will hold a public session, broadcast live on television and radio, to vote on the resolution to elect the chief justice of the Supreme People's Court. The new chief justice will take the oath of office and deliver an inaugural address.

Towards the end of the afternoon, the National Assembly will continue to vote on the resolutions to elect the vice state president and the prosecutor general of the Supreme People's Procuracy.

Currently, the state president is General Luong Cuong; the prime minister is Pham Minh Chinh; the chief justice of the Supreme People's Court is Nguyen Van Quang; and the prosecutor general of the Supreme People's Procuracy is Nguyen Huy Tien.

Previously, on the first working day of its first session, the National Assembly elected its chairperson, vice chairpersons, and committee chairpersons.
