National Highway 13's new look after 8-lane expansion

Over 9 km of national highway 13, from Ong Bo intersection to Ring Road 3, has been upgraded to eight spacious lanes, alleviating traffic congestion in Binh Duong province.

National Highway 13, connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc, spans over 145 km. In 2022, Binh Duong province began upgrading a 15 km section of the highway within its territory, expanding it from six to eight lanes with an investment of over 6,000 billion VND.

After four years of construction, the route is largely complete, appearing spacious and well-maintained, which helps reduce peak-hour traffic congestion.

Most of the original median strips and streetlights along the road have not yet been relocated. However, the 9.5 km section from Ong Bo bridge to Le Hong Phong intersection now has road markings, and over 500 m through Binh Hoa ward features a four-lane hard median for traffic heading from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai.

A nearly one km section through Thuan Giao ward uses a hard median to separate cars and motorbikes, aiming to prevent traffic conflicts. This area typically sees high motorbike traffic because it is near major industrial parks such as Viet Hung and VSIP 1.

Traffic signs and guideboards have been installed along the route to enhance traffic safety.

Sidewalks have been constructed in some sections, and locations for tree planting have been identified. "In the coming time, contractors will accelerate paving work, ensuring compliance with urban standards," a representative from the construction unit said.

Currently, construction units are returning to the site to complete the remaining sections, aiming to bring the project to fruition soon. Completion and operation are anticipated by next Q2.

The 5.5 km section from Ong Bo bridge to Vinh Binh bridge is currently experiencing delays due to site clearance issues. According to the investor, power pole relocation and site handover for this segment are largely complete, and contractors are now accelerating construction to bring the entire project into operation.

The expansion of National Highway 13 is expected to ease traffic pressure along the route and support urban development. Ho Chi Minh City is also preparing to expand its section of this highway through Thu Duc City to further mitigate traffic congestion.
