National traffic police will launch a comprehensive crackdown on commercial transport vehicles nationwide from 26/8 to 25/9, targeting road safety violations. The Traffic Police Department announced this initiative will focus on two main categories: commercial freight vehicles, including trucks, semi-trailers, and construction material carriers; and commercial passenger vehicles with 8 seats or more, such as double-decker sleeper buses.

Police forces will be deployed on key national highways, expressways, and winding mountain passes with limited visibility, identified as high-risk accident areas.

During this month-long campaign, traffic police will strictly penalize violations directly causing accidents. These include: speeding, driving in the wrong lane, improper overtaking, using mobile phones while driving, and failing to maintain a safe distance on expressways.

Additionally, severe penalties await those involved in unauthorized stopping to pick up or drop off passengers, operating "ghost" vehicles (non-commercial vehicles transporting passengers or goods for a fee), drivers exceeding permitted driving hours, and violations related to journey monitoring devices and cabin cameras.

The inspection will also intensify load weighing efforts to eliminate oversized, overloaded, and modified vehicles. For violations linked to transport unit responsibility, police will immediately coordinate with relevant agencies to inspect and penalize both businesses and vehicle owners.

This initiative follows a previous nationwide inspection of passenger transport businesses and vehicles, launched by the Traffic Police Department in late July after a series of serious accidents.

Initial findings from that earlier inspection revealed over 4,000 commercial transport drivers showing signs of operating vehicles beyond the allowed time.
