Passenger bus overturns on Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway

A sleeper bus operating on the Lai Chau - Ha Noi route overturned on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway, injuring several people.

On 17/4, at approximately 2h, a Ngan Ha sleeper bus carrying 40 passengers from Lai Chau to Ha Noi overturned. The incident occurred at Km189 of the Lao Cai - Noi Bai Expressway, in Lam Giang commune, Lao Cai province.

A passenger on board reported that the accident resulted in injuries to at least 7 passengers.

Within approximately 20 minutes of the incident, authorities arrived at the scene. They provided emergency aid to the injured and managed traffic flow.

At the accident site, the bus lay across the expressway, its windshield shattered. The road was slippery due to rain at the time of the accident.

The Ha Noi - Lao Cai Expressway, stretching over 260 km, connects three provinces: Ha Noi, Phu Tho, and Lao Cai.

The section where the accident occurred has two lanes and lacks a rigid median barrier. It is currently undergoing expansion, with fences in place, leading to a reduced speed limit of 50 km/h from the usual 70-80 km/h. This expansion project is expected to be completed by late 2026.
