Proposal for a coastal expressway connecting Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho

A proposed expressway, approximately 150 km long, would link Ho Chi Minh City with Can Tho, passing through Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, and Vinh Long, aiming to boost regional connectivity and unlock new development opportunities.

Local leaders and authorities endorsed this plan at a meeting on the afternoon of 23/4. The route is planned to have 4 lanes, including emergency stopping lanes, with a design speed of 100 km/h.

The expressway will begin at its connection point with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway in Ho Chi Minh City, extend through the Mekong Delta provinces, and conclude at the Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang expressway. The total investment is estimated at over 68,000 billion VND, structured as a public-private partnership (PPP).

The project is divided into two phases. Phase one, with a total investment of nearly 29,000 billion VND, is expected to commence construction in late 2026 and be completed in about three years. Phase two will develop the remaining section, spanning more than 77 km, connecting from National Route 57 to the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway.

Upon completion, the expressway will establish a major transport artery, alleviating congestion on existing routes and fostering socio-economic development in the Southern region.
