Seven vehicles collide, leaving two dead

A multi-vehicle accident involving seven vehicles on National Highway 5 resulted in two immediate fatalities and one severe injury on the afternoon of 22/12.

The chain collision, involving seven vehicles traveling in the same direction, occurred around 3 PM on 22/12. It happened at Km 46+500 on National Highway 5, specifically in Tu Minh ward, Hai Phong city, on the stretch heading from Hanoi to Hai Phong.

Initial reports indicate that a container truck with a Hai Phong license plate, driven by Nguyen Van Thinh (51), unexpectedly rear-ended a cargo truck. This powerful impact triggered a chain reaction, involving six other vehicles ahead: two container trucks, two cargo trucks, and two passenger cars.

At the scene, the vehicles obstructed the lanes and sustained severe damage. A white passenger car with a Hai Duong license plate and a cargo truck were among the most heavily impacted, crushed between larger vehicles. The passenger car was completely deformed, its body crumpled, and its driver died. Another cargo truck's front end was pulverized, its driver also died and was trapped in the cabin, requiring significant time for authorities to extricate.

In addition to the two fatalities, one person sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the emergency room.

Hai Phong city authorities quickly arrived to manage traffic and investigate the scene. As the crashed vehicles were large and obstructed the entire roadway, National Highway 5 heading towards Hai Phong was paralyzed, causing traffic congestion that lasted for several hours.

At the time of the accident, the weather was dry with good visibility. Traffic density on the route was high, with most vehicles moving slowly. Police are currently investigating the cause.
