Sixth-grade student dies from electric shock while climbing roof for ball

A 12-year-old male student in Do Vinh ward died from an electric shock after climbing a roof to retrieve a ball on the afternoon of 9/5.

Around 5 p.m., after finishing his second-semester final exams, Nguyen Hoang Trong Hieu, a sixth-grade student at Nguyen Van Troi Secondary School, went with two friends to play football at the courtyard in front of the residential group 4 office in Do Vinh ward, near his school.

Moments later, the ball landed on the roof of the residential group building, which was over two meters high. While climbing to retrieve the ball, he came into contact with an electrical wire and was electrocuted. Residents quickly discovered him and called for help, but could not approach due to the live power.

Staff, teachers, and residents then contacted the power company to cut the electricity. Over 10 minutes later, the victim was brought down with a ladder and rushed to Ninh Thuan General Hospital for emergency treatment, but he was pronounced dead.

The victim lived with his paternal grandfather in Hieu Le village, Do Vinh ward, as his parents worked away from home.
