Traffic jams stretch two to three kilometers on some Hanoi roads

Rain eased from 9 AM today, but some roads like Nguyen Van Linh, Dam Quang Trung, Nguyen Trai, Thai Ha, and Truong Chinh still experience traffic jams spanning two to three kilometers.

Persistent rain from the evening of 14/9 to the morning of 15/9 caused flooding on several roads in Hanoi, making travel difficult. By 6h on 15/9, Hanoi Drainage Company reported flooding at: Dam Quang Trung street, Co Linh, Vinh Hung, underpasses 4, 5, 6, 9 of Thang Long Boulevard, and National Highway 6 (the section through Yen Nghia).

At the Nguyen Van Linh - Co Linh intersection in Long Bien ward, water levels reached approximately 20-40 cm, significantly impeding vehicle movement.

From 4h30, the area at the foot of Vinh Tuy bridge, in front of Aeon Long Bien, was flooded knee-deep. Numerous vehicles crossing Vinh Tuy bridge in both directions, both into the city center and towards Long Bien, caused traffic jams stretching for kilometers. At one point, oto took nearly one hour to cross the bridge. Many vehicles broke down, forcing people to walk about 400 m. By 9h, the water had receded approximately 15 cm, allowing many vehicles to pass.

Nguyen Thi Thuy from Long Bien ward, taking her two elementary school children to an exam, had her vehicle break down while passing the section in front of Aeon Long Bien. She had to take her children to a non-flooded area to wait for their grandfather to pick them up by motorbike.

From about 7h, traffic began to build up on Dam Quang Trung street and the Co Linh - Dam Quang Trung intersection, at the foot of Vinh Tuy bridge. This was due to flooding and ongoing construction at the intersection, which narrowed the roadway. By 9h30, even though the water had receded to nearly 10 cm, the traffic jam still extended the entire length of Vinh Tuy bridge, over three kilometers, primarily affecting the oto lanes.

At the exit from Vinh Tuy bridge, water reached half-wheel deep, making vehicle movement difficult; many vehicles broke down, requiring people to walk.

Trieu Khuc street is one of the low-lying areas that frequently flood after rain, with water rising 20-40 cm. oto speeding through the flooded section created large waves that splashed into homes on both sides of the road. Many families had water barriers ready at their doors to prevent water from entering their homes.

Nguyen Trai street in Thanh Xuan ward, specifically the section passing Thuong Dinh station, experienced a two-kilometer long traffic jam from Nga Tu So to Vu Trong Phung intersection.
