Traffic police mannequins for speed enforcement on national highway N2

Nearly ten life-sized traffic police models, holding speed guns, have been deployed along national highway N2 for three months to remind drivers to maintain speed and stay in their lanes.

The Tay Ninh Provincial Traffic Police Department announced on 15/4 the installation of 9 foam mannequins on national highway N2, a key route in the Mekong Delta. This initiative is part of a peak period campaign to control traffic order and safety violations in the area, running from 16/3 to 15/6.

These life-sized models, resembling officers on duty, help drivers proactively reduce speed from a distance, preventing speeding and reckless overtaking. To ensure drivers do not become complacent, thinking these are mere scarecrows without actual enforcement, authorities frequently conduct real speed checks near the mannequin locations.

Lieutenant Colonel Cao Thanh Vu, an officer with the Traffic Accident Investigation, Resolution, and Violation Handling Team of the Traffic Police Department, stated that national highway N2 was chosen due to its frequent speeding violations. This route also experiences heavy traffic, helping to share the load with national highway 1 and expressways connecting the southeastern provinces to the Mekong Delta and vice versa.

Following this deployment, other routes with complex traffic situations, such as national highway 62, will also receive similar mannequin installations.

The Provincial Police also plans to install more surveillance cameras and increase mobile patrols across all roadways.

Previously, the deployment of traffic police mannequins holding speed guns was implemented in some localities, such as Can Tho City, and received significant feedback from residents.
