Truck fire on Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway causes prolonged congestion

A truck carrying machinery suddenly erupted in flames while traveling on the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway on the afternoon of 28/3, with thick black smoke obscuring visibility and leading to extensive traffic delays.

Around 2:45 PM, driver Vu Van Tam was operating a truck laden with agricultural machinery, heading from the Phan Thiet area towards the northern provinces. As he approached the Du Long interchange, located in Thuan Bac commune, the vehicle unexpectedly began emitting smoke.

Upon noticing the incident, Tam promptly stopped the truck, retrieved essential items, and exited the vehicle, simultaneously warning approaching traffic.

Minutes later, the fire intensified, engulfing the rear section of the truck. Dense black smoke billowed high, severely reducing visibility and forcing vehicles in the same direction to slow down and stop, creating a traffic jam stretching over 1 km.

The Fire and Rescue Police dispatched one fire truck, one tanker, and 8 officers and soldiers to the scene to assist in extinguishing the blaze. By approximately 3:30 PM, the fire was brought completely under control.

The incident resulted in no human casualties, but much of the cargo on the truck was destroyed. The vehicle sustained heavy damage, with its rear compartment burnt to a bare frame. The driver is currently assessing the extent of the damage.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

The Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway, spanning over 78 km, is part of the North-South axis passing through Khanh Hoa and opened for operation in April 2024. The route features four lanes, is 17 m wide, and has a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h. In recent times, the expressway has recorded several vehicle fire incidents, primarily attributed to technical malfunctions experienced by vehicles operating at high speeds.
