Truck hits car stopped on highway emergency lane, mother and child die

A 5-seater car stopped on the emergency lane of the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway was hit from behind by a truck, killing a mother and child and leaving the husband in critical condition, at noon on 14/3.

Around noon on 14/3, Nguyen Van Ven, 31 years old, was driving a truck registered in Ho Chi Minh City on the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway, heading from Ho Chi Minh City to northern provinces. Upon reaching Phuoc Ha commune, the truck collided with a 5-seater car that was stopped on the emergency lane.

The impact was severe, damaging both vehicles, with the 5-seater car being severely deformed. The three occupants of the car were rushed to Ninh Thuan General Hospital, located over 15 km from the accident scene. Sadly, the wife and young child succumbed to severe injuries. The 39-year-old male driver, the husband, is in critical condition. Mr. Ven, the truck driver, sustained minor scratches.

The accident caused local traffic congestion on the expressway. Traffic police and the highway management unit quickly arrived to direct vehicles and investigate the scene. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

The Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway, part of the North-South expressway, is over 78 km long and passes through Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces. It became operational in 4/2024. The expressway features 4 lanes, is 17 meters wide, and has a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h, with a total investment exceeding 8,900 billion VND.

Since 2025, this expressway has seen numerous traffic incidents, including truck and passenger bus fires. These incidents are primarily attributed to vehicles experiencing technical issues while traveling at high speeds.
