On the evening of 15/4, rescue personnel on standby at Cua Lo beach, near Lan Chau island in Cua Lo ward, heard a woman's desperate cries for help. Her two relatives were drowning, swept far from shore by powerful waves.
Rescue officials immediately deployed a canoe, mobilizing additional basket boats from local fishermen. The sea was rough with large waves and strong winds, complicating efforts to reach the victims.
After more than 5 minutes, both victims were safely brought ashore.
Relatives stated that yesterday afternoon, the two brothers, from the former Nam Dan district, visited Cua Lo beach with their family. While swimming, strong waves suddenly overwhelmed them, preventing them from reaching the shore in time.
Over the past week, Cua Lo beach has seen multiple drowning incidents. On 10/4 alone, four swimmers faced accidents, with two fatalities. One victim was 17-year-old student Le Thi Quynh Chi, who died after rushing into the sea to save a friend.
The Cua Lo Ward Search and Rescue and Disaster Prevention Center warned that the accident area has hidden rocks, strong currents, and dangerous deep water. Tourists should avoid swimming too early (before 6h) or too late (after 18h) when rescue personnel are not on duty.
Nghe An has recently experienced its first heatwave, leading to a surge in beachgoers, especially in the afternoons. Authorities advise that children and the elderly always be accompanied by a supervisor while swimming to prevent accidents.
Cua Lo beach, a renowned tourist destination in Central Vietnam, is located over 10 km from Vinh city and more than 300 km from Ha Noi. It attracts millions of domestic and international visitors each summer.
