Young man dies after ancient tree falls on him during storm

An 18-year-old man riding a motorbike on National Highway 14, through Tan An ward, was crushed by a falling ancient tree during a storm and passed away after one day of emergency treatment.

The victim died at noon on 21/8 at Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital due to severe injuries, after nearly one day of emergency care and treatment.

On the afternoon of 20/8, the young man from Gia Lai was riding his motorbike to Dak Lak to visit relatives. As he reached the Dat Ly area, a large roadside tree unexpectedly broke and fell, crushing him. He sustained severe injuries and lost consciousness at the scene. Local residents transported him to the hospital. His motorbike was heavily damaged.

The thunderstorm, which lasted for about 3-5 minutes, also caused damage in Buon Ma Thuot and Tan An wards. Many trees were uprooted or had branches and trunks blocking several streets, disrupting traffic. Strong winds also damaged signs of some businesses.

The thunderstorm with strong winds on the afternoon of 20/8 also had a widespread impact, causing damage in several other localities, including Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh.
