The US and Iran have confirmed that their presidents, Donald Trump and Masoud Pezeshkian, signed an agreement to end their ongoing conflict. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino shared a video on X on 18/6, showing President Trump signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Iran. This occurred just before a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles in France. Secretary of State Marco Rubio handed Trump the document, with Macron seated to Trump's left.
"This is a historic moment we are witnessing and sharing together," Scavino wrote. French President Macron also posted a video of the signing, stating that the agreement "paves the way for lasting peace and allows the Strait of Hormuz to reopen." He added that this is an important step that will soon benefit citizens through reduced energy prices.
Iran's state news agency IRNA published images of President Pezeshkian signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the US. He was seen holding documents bearing both his and President Trump's signatures. IRNA reported that "the Memorandum of Understanding on ending the war against the Islamic Republic of Iran, waged by the US and Israel, was signed by the Iranian President and the US President early on 18/6."

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that the memorandum was signed in both English and Persian. This was done at Tehran's request to ensure transparency. The document had been electronically signed earlier on 14/6 by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Vance was initially scheduled to travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to sign the agreement with Iran's representative Ghalibaf on 19/6. However, Baqaei explained on 18/6 that presidential signatures provide stronger binding value, making the in-person meeting in Switzerland unnecessary. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who mediated the agreement between the US and Iran, stated that a physical signing ceremony will still proceed as planned to mark the landmark event and initiate technical-level negotiations.
