The incident occurred on 19/6 in Van Xuan commune, Viet Hung, Vu Thu district, formerly Thai Binh province. Two oto approached an unsignalized intersection at high speed, showing no signs of slowing. The car closer to the camera was speeding and sounded its horn. Simultaneously, a truck from the opposite direction entered the intersection at a similar high speed. The car then struck the side of the truck, propelling it into a residential building alongside the road. The extent of injuries or casualties remains unknown.
Unsignalized intersections with obstructed views are frequent accident blackspots, posing a high risk of collisions due to conflicting traffic flows. Drivers must reduce speed before entering these intersections to react to unexpected situations. It is crucial for drivers to have their foot ready on the brake pedal, not the accelerator, to minimize reaction time in unforeseen events.
In this incident, the truck had already entered the intersection before the black 7-seater car arrived. The car driver should have actively reduced speed. Had the 7-seater car slowed, the truck might have safely cleared the intersection.
Drivers who fail to reduce speed and cause an accident at an intersection face a fine of 20-22 million VND. Additionally, 10 points will be deducted from their driving license, as stipulated by Decree 168/2024.
