Luxeed RX: a chinese vehicle with a lexus-like name and ferrari-esque design

This chinese brand's suv blends design cues from the ferrari purosangue and xiaomi yu7, and its name is easily confused with the lexus rx.

The Luxeed RX is set to open for orders in the Chinese market, boasting a range of up to 852 km per charge. While its design may not be revolutionary, the RX offers several advantages to compete directly with segment rivals.

First revealed a few months ago and now officially launched, the new model's name evokes Lexus's RX SUV series. This vehicle is a collaboration between automaker Chery and technology giant Huawei, operating under their joint brand, Luxeed. In June, the joint venture had announced that a former Ferrari design director styled the vehicle.

The front end features a rugged look with a black grille and air intakes, combined with slim led headlights and a dark logo.

The overall Luxeed RX is sleek, featuring extended side hips, body-length character lines, and a low, coupe-like roofline.

Huawei's next-generation giant whale battery platform, a system with four lidar sensors, and architecture designed for advanced driver-assistance systems.

The Luxeed RX is the first SUV from the Huawei-backed HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) to use the letter X in its name. Previous models in the alliance typically used alphanumeric names, such as the Luxeed S7, R7, and V9.

Key features of the new model include Huawei's next-generation giant whale battery platform, a system with four lidar sensors, and an architecture designed for advanced driver-assistance systems. Luxeed also stated that the safety technology system from the V9 multi-purpose vehicle will be fully integrated into the RX. Notably, the four-lidar sensor configuration remains rare in mass-produced vehicles, as most high-end Chinese electric vehicles currently utilize only one to three lidar sensors.

Luxeed offers customers three battery pack options and two drivetrain configurations: rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The standard version features an 81,1 kWh battery pack, while two higher-end versions are equipped with a 100 kWh battery. The one-motor electric version delivers 371 horsepower, a respectable figure, though not outstanding compared to the current landscape of Chinese electric vehicles.

For those preferring a sportier driving experience, the two-motor electric version boasts a total output of up to 585 horsepower. Depending on the powertrain configuration, the vehicle's range varies from 700 km for the standard version to 852 km for the 100 kWh battery version, according to CLTC standards.

The official price of the Luxeed RX has not yet been announced. However, observers predict it will be comparable to its competitor, the Xiaomi YU7, which starts at approximately 253.500 yuan (equivalent to 37.000 USD).
