The impact caused the second motorcyclist to lose balance, fall, and hit their face hard on the road. The driver who caused the collision then left the scene. The extent of injuries is currently unknown.
According to Decree 168 on road traffic penalties, running a red light on a motorcycle that causes a traffic accident incurs a fine of 10-14 million VND and a deduction of 10 points from the driver's license. Fleeing the scene after causing a motorcycle accident incurs a fine of 8-10 million VND and a deduction of 6 points from the driver's license.
In a similar incident on the morning of 23/4, at the Nguyen Van Thoai - Mai Thuc Lan intersection in An Hai ward, Da Nang, one motorcycle sped out from a corner and ran a red light. When it reached the middle of the intersection, the motorcycle was struck by a car, and its rider was thrown onto the car's hood. The extent of injuries is currently unknown.
Drivers should not attempt to speed up or cross an intersection when the traffic light is about to turn yellow or red. Vehicles already proceeding through an intersection should still observe both directions to anticipate other vehicles attempting to run a red light.
