On 2/6, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Specialist Doctor Level II and Deputy Director of Children's Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City, announced that the child passed away last night despite doctors' intensive resuscitation efforts. The child's father and mother had also died after the fire.
Half a month earlier, the child was transferred from Ca Mau to Ho Chi Minh City in critical condition. He suffered second and third-degree burns covering over 90% of his body, along with respiratory tract burns, sepsis, and multiple organ damage. The treatment team provided mechanical ventilation, vasopressors, intensive resuscitation, and aggressive burn care. However, due to the extensive burn area and numerous severe complications, the child's condition did not improve.
The fire occurred on the morning of 17/5 at a modest single-story house in Nhan Dan B hamlet, Phong Thanh commune, Ca Mau province. The father died en route to the hospital. The child's mother, 43, suffered severe burns and succumbed to her injuries on the afternoon of 18/5. Investigating authorities suspect the father set the fire following a marital conflict with his wife.
