On 1/5, a 41-year-old man in Campania, southern Italy, woke up in excruciating pain to find himself in a pool of blood. His wife, whose name has not been released, allegedly waited until he fell asleep after lunch before using a kitchen knife to sever his penis. The victim managed to run to the door and call for help, but by the time he reached the hospital, he had lost nearly one-half of his blood. Medical staff attempted to preserve the severed organ, but surgeons determined reattachment was impossible. The wife was arrested at the scene, found disoriented and still holding the bloody knife, and has since been charged with attempted murder.
The incident followed a series of heated arguments between the couple. The man had recently moved to Campania with his new wife and reportedly suggested they move to a larger house to accommodate an additional person. According to local media, he then requested that his ex-wife come to live with them, which ignited intense disputes with his current wife.
Authorities are currently investigating the man's last meal to determine if his wife had drugged him prior to the attack. In a disturbing development, photos of the husband in his hospital bed, alongside images of the severed organ sealed in a medical bag, were leaked online. These images have since circulated widely across chat rooms and social media platforms. The husband's lawyer has announced plans to file a complaint to identify those responsible for taking and sharing the photos.
A similar case occurred in South Korea in January, where a 58-year-old woman severed her 50-year-old husband's penis with a knife and flushed it down a cafe toilet. She suspected him of infidelity. The woman was later convicted of inflicting serious injury and received a seven-year prison sentence, a reduced term due to an agreement reached with her husband.
