The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee held its second consultative conference on 2/2 to select candidates for the 16th National Assembly. During the conference, all delegates unanimously approved the list of 217 individuals nominated by central agencies. This marks a crucial step in preparing for the upcoming elections.
Bui Thi Minh Hoai, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, announced that its Standing Committee would finalize the conference minutes and compile consultation results. These results will then be submitted to the National Election Council and the National Assembly Standing Committee. Additionally, provincial and city Standing Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will gather feedback from voters in residential areas concerning the candidates and prepare for the third consultative conference, which is the final stage of the nomination process.
The consultation process, by regulation, involves three stages. The first consultative conference occurred on 4/12/2025. Subsequently, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued a resolution to adjust the structure, composition, and number of nominees from central and local agencies, organizations, and units. Following this, agencies, organizations, and units held conferences to nominate candidates and collect feedback from voters in their workplaces. By 2 PM on 30/1, all minutes from these workplace voter conferences and expanded leadership meetings were submitted to the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
The National Election Council also provided the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee with summary lists, brief biographies, and asset declarations for the 16th National Assembly delegate candidates. Hoang Cong Thuy, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, confirmed that candidate nominations were conducted diligently and democratically. All 217 nominees received 100% approval from voters in their workplaces. A review of the minutes indicated no issues requiring verification.
