Trees fall, injuring two in Hanoi

Two banyan trees in Ly Tu Trong Park, opposite Quan Thanh Temple in Tay Ho ward, unexpectedly fell, injuring two people on the afternoon of 24/2.

The incident occurred around 3 PM on 24/2, during a light drizzle in Hanoi. A banyan tree, with a trunk diameter exceeding one meter and standing approximately 15 meters tall, suddenly toppled. Its expansive canopy narrowly missed Mr. Dinh, who was riding a motorbike past the park.

Fearing someone might be trapped underneath, Mr. Dinh, along with a street vendor and another man, immediately returned to search the area.

Moments later, a second banyan tree, also about one meter in diameter, fell in the opposite direction. "I managed to escape, but two elderly individuals didn't make it in time", Mr. Dinh recounted. The injured victims were quickly transported to an emergency room.

Tay Ho Ward Police responded by cordoning off the area around the fallen trees to manage the scene. Initial reports indicate that the two victims are in stable condition.
