Car catches fire on Ho Chi Minh City sidewalk

A 5-seater car caught fire on the evening of 19/7 while parked on a sidewalk in Phuoc Thang ward (formerly Vung Tau City). The incident occurred as the owner and a mechanic were attempting to resolve an issue.

Around 6 PM, the driver and a mechanic were inspecting the 5-seater car, which had a Quang Tri license plate and was parked on the sidewalk near the intersection of 2 Thang 9 and Do Luong streets. Suddenly, thick smoke billowed from the engine compartment. They were unable to open the hood to address the problem. Approximately 5 minutes later, flames erupted.

Passersby quickly responded, using sticks and wrenches to pry open the hood, while others rushed to a nearby restaurant to fetch buckets of water. Once the hood was opened, they continuously poured water onto the flames, bringing the fire under control after about 10 minutes.

The driver stated that the car had shown signs of brake failure earlier, prompting them to pull over onto the sidewalk for repairs. However, when the engine was restarted, the fire suddenly erupted. No one was injured in the incident.
