The remains of martyr Nguyen Thi Ut were discovered on 21/7 by the Can Tho City Military Command and Team K90 of Military Region 9. The discovery took place on land owned by Mr. Nam Nhung, alongside the Bo Xoai canal in Truong Tho hamlet, Truong Long Tay commune.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel La Phu Huy, team leader of K90, reported that the remains were found approximately one meter deep, wrapped in hammock fabric. Authorities are completing procedures for reburial, which is scheduled for 22/7.

The search commenced following information provided by Mr. Tran Van Quan, a 76-year-old war invalid residing in Tan Hoa commune. In 1969, Mr. Quan served as a squad leader in the Tan Hoa commune guerrilla team, which consisted of eight women and one man, and operated directly in this area.

According to Mr. Quan, one day in August 1969, around 8h, five enemy planes launched a sweep operation in the Vam Chet Tho area of Truong Long Tay commune, simultaneously firing into the huts in the fields. One hut contained three people: Ms. Tran Thi Tho, Mr. Hai An, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut. Ms. Tho managed to escape, Mr. An sustained a broken leg, while Ms. Ut was killed. Mr. Quan, who was in a different hut, was also injured.

Nguyen Thi Ut, born in 1950 and often referred to as Ut Mom, was a guerrilla from Tan Hoa commune. After the raid, Mr. Muoi Ke, a hamlet official, temporarily buried her body on Mr. Nam Nhung's land, by the Bo Xoai canal.

In addition to Mr. Quan's testimony, eight other witnesses and local residents confirmed their knowledge of a soldier being buried in the area. The Truong Long Tay Commune Military Command, along with the Can Tho City Military Command, subsequently surveyed the site, cross-referenced martyr records, and demarcated the search area.
