Following a recent meeting regarding the project, Ho Chi Minh City Vice Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong directed the Department of Planning and Architecture to lead and coordinate with relevant units. Their task is to finalize the route plan and the locations of facilities along the line, then submit it for city approval in march.
City leaders emphasized that the solution must adhere to project standards while minimizing land acquisition and impacts on existing structures.
Specifically, for the Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi wharf area in the former Xom Chieu ward (district 4), the metro line needs to explore an underground route with a suitable transition point to ground level.

Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to expand the Ho Chi Minh museum at the Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi wharf, integrating a multi-functional green park spanning approximately 39,5 hectares. Concurrently, Nguyen Tat Thanh street will be expanded to 8 lanes. Consequently, the metro route through this area is being re-evaluated to ensure infrastructure synchronization.
The Ben Thanh – Can Gio metro line, spanning nearly 54 km, is an investment by Vinspeed Company, a Vingroup subsidiary. The line is planned to start near Ben Thanh market in the former district 1, specifically at 23/9 park. It will then run along the parkland parallel to Le Lai street, turn onto Nguyen Thai Hoc, follow Ky Con, and cross Ben Nghe canal.
The route then turns northeast along Hoang Dieu street, shifts southeast at the Nguyen Tat Thanh intersection, and follows the Doan Nhu Hai street corridor. It continues past the Nha Rong port area, merges with Nguyen Van Linh street near Tan Thuan 2 bridge, passes the Nguyen Thi Thap interchange, proceeds to Tan My ward, and extends to Can Gio.

The project's total investment exceeds 102,430 billion VND, excluding nearly 13,000 billion VND in site clearance costs covered by the state budget. The line is designed for a maximum speed of 350 km/h. Phase one is expected to include two stations, Ben Thanh and Can Gio, along with a 39-hectare depot.
The project broke ground in 12/2025 and is slated for completion in 2028. It is expected to create a high-capacity transport route connecting Ho Chi Minh City's center with Can Gio.
