The approximately 5-kilometer road runs along the Vam Co Tay river, connecting to the Cambodian border. The incident happened just after the road's asphalt paving was completed and before its official acceptance.
Local authorities immediately erected barriers, warning signs, and signal lights at both ends of the affected area. Authorities are diverting motorbikes temporarily through residents' private land, while cars must detour about 3 kilometers via an alternative route.

Investigators determined the initial cause of the collapse to be weak ground, which could not support the road's load. On the same afternoon, the investor and construction unit surveyed the site and developed a remediation plan.
