Residents struggle to cross Chuong Duong Bridge

During the closure of Long Bien Bridge for repairs, traffic has diverted to Chuong Duong Bridge, turning rush hour into a nightmare.

Vehicles were congested on Long Bien - Xuan Quan dike road, heading from Long Bien Bridge towards Chuong Duong Bridge.

From 28/3 to 27/5, the Hanoi Department of Construction prohibits road vehicles from circulating on Long Bien Bridge in both directions to facilitate a repair project. During rush hour, commuters and students must reroute to Chuong Duong Bridge, located about one kilometer from Long Bien Bridge.

Residents from small alleys sought ways to enter the main road to join the flow of people crossing the bridge. Some, seeing the congestion, chose to climb onto sidewalks and dike embankments.

Traffic volume on Chuong Duong Bridge increased significantly from 6:30, leading to congestion. Motorcyclists even encroached on lanes reserved for cars.

Local traffic police reported that since yesterday, traffic volume has been much higher compared to before the Long Bien Bridge closure. They anticipate that it will take at least 10 days for congestion to ease, as residents adjust their travel times.

To alleviate traffic pressure, authorities had to implement distant traffic diversion, separating vehicles into multiple batches.

Many children took the opportunity to sleep while waiting in traffic.

Do Xuan Tinh stated that he was late for work yesterday, so he proactively left early today; however, he still encountered traffic. "Traffic doubles my travel time," Tinh said.

The turn from Nguyen Van Cu street into Long Bien - Xuan Quan dike road was changed from two-way to one-way. A ride-hailing driver appeared confused, thinking he had entered a wrong-way street.
