The incident occurred around 11h when a gasoline tanker truck, with a TP HCM license plate, was traveling on National Highway 14 from TP HCM towards Lam Dong. Upon reaching Tho Son hamlet, near Bu Dang market, the driver encroached on the lane to overtake a vehicle ahead.
Simultaneously, two trucks traveling in the opposite direction entered a curve. Spotting the tanker, they swerved into the motorbike lane to avoid it but were too late, resulting in a chain collision. A refrigerated truck following behind then drove into a roadside ditch to avoid the accident.

The powerful impact deformed the cabins of the two trucks, trapping the drivers inside. Locals and other passing drivers broke open the doors to rescue the victims; one person sustained a broken leg.
Witnesses stated that the accident area has a narrow road surface, a sharp curve, limited visibility, and frequent traffic incidents.
The collision caused National Highway 14, in the direction from Gia Nghia to TP HCM, to be congested for many kilometers. Police were present to direct traffic and investigate the cause.
