Hanoi's sky was cloudy this morning after a series of hot days. Around 10-11h, thunderstorms occurred in many areas, including Thanh Xuan, Ha Dong, Cau Giay, Hoang Mai, Tu Liem, and Phu Dien, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature.
The previous day, intense heat enveloped the northern and central regions. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting recorded temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius in many locations, such as: Kim Boi (Phu Tho), Nho Quan (Ninh Binh), Ha Tinh, Ba To (Quang Ngai), Tam Ky (Da Nang), Quang Ngai, and Ba Don (Quang Tri). Hanoi registered 37,7 degrees at Lang station and 37,3 degrees Celsius in Ha Dong.

The northern region's showers resulted from a maritime air mass and moist southeasterly winds moving in from the east, which eased the intense heat. Starting tomorrow, 17/5, the area will experience widespread showers and thunderstorms.
The meteorological agency reported that rain will be concentrated in the eastern Northern region. By 18-19/5, the rain area will expand westward. Around 20-21/5, influenced by moist southeasterly winds and southwesterly wind convergence from the edge of the subtropical high-pressure system, the northern region may experience moderate to heavy rain in some areas.
From 22/5, as the wind convergence and southeasterly winds weaken, rain in the northern region will decrease and cease.
Accuweather, a US weather service, forecasts Hanoi's temperature tomorrow to drop to 26-31 degrees Celsius. High-altitude areas above 1.500 m, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), will generally experience temperatures of 18-24 degrees Celsius.
In the Central region, the hot western low-pressure area is also weakening, leading to a gradual decrease in heat. Tomorrow, the heat will be localized and conclude by 18/5.
In the Southern region and the southern Central Highlands, the southwest monsoon has been strengthening, causing late afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Highest temperatures in the Southern region will generally be 33-35 degrees, while the Central Highlands will range from 31-33 degrees Celsius.
