On 11/2, the Nghe An Provincial Police announced the formation of a council to destroy 180 pigs infected with African swine fever. Authorities are finalizing a dossier to address the driver's violation.
The interception occurred around 2 h on 5/2. The Economic Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police, in collaboration with inter-agency forces, conducted an administrative inspection of the truck as it passed through Nghia Loc commune, formerly part of Nghia Dan district. This action followed a period of surveillance on the vehicle, which bore a Quang Tri license plate and was suspected of transporting infected livestock.

Police recorded that the truck contained 180 pigs, with a total weight exceeding 15 tons. The 42-year-old male driver, a native of Quang Tri, failed to provide documents proving the pigs' origin. Furthermore, the truck bed was not sealed as required by regulations.
The driver stated the pigs were being transported from Thai Nguyen province to Central Vietnam for consumption during the Tet Binh Ngo holiday.
Test results from the Nghe An Province Sub-Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health confirmed all the pigs were infected with African swine fever.
African swine fever is a dangerous infectious disease in pigs caused by a virus. It can occur year-round and has a mortality rate of nearly 100%.
