Nomura Kazuya, 33, will be tried by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court on 5/12 for intentional infliction of injury, under point a, clause 4, Article 134 of the Penal Code.
According to the indictment, Nomura Kazuya and Nagata Yuijro arrived in Vietnam for tourism on 5/11/2023. They rented an apartment on Nguyen Huu Tho street, Tan Hung ward, District 7, for their stay.
On the afternoon of 5/1/2024, the two men had a dispute when it was Nagata’s turn to clean the room and wash dishes. During the argument, Nagata struck Nomura’s shoulder and left leg with a frying pan, then grabbed his collar, leading to a struggle.
Nomura retaliated, hitting Nagata’s right eye with a plastic water bottle. The two wrestled to the floor, and though Nomura was underneath, he repeatedly struck his compatriot’s face, chest, and abdomen. After they stopped, seeing blood from Nagata’s eye on the floor, they cleaned it up together before going to sleep.
On the afternoon of 7/1, as they checked out, Nagata collapsed suddenly after exiting the elevator and died on the spot. Police invited Nomura for questioning immediately afterward.
The forensic report concluded that Nagata died from multiple injuries, including a skull fracture and blunt chest trauma. These injuries were consistent with impacts from a metal frying pan and a plastic water bottle.
During the investigation, the defendant was noted for his sincere confession and remorse. The victim's representative requested Nomura pay 50 million Japanese yen (approximately 9 billion dong) in compensation.
