As the attendant was preparing to refuel the car, the rear trunk unexpectedly exploded. Fierce flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle. According to the gas station's camera footage, driver An appeared panicked, ran around the front of the car, and took out his phone to make a call.
Gas station staff and local residents used on-site fire extinguishers to douse the flames. After approximately 15 minutes, the fire was brought under control, but the car's trunk and rear half were incinerated. One fuel pump was also severely damaged.
According to a witness who directly participated in extinguishing the fire, when the car caught fire, there was no information about anyone being inside, so everyone focused on putting out the fire from the outside. After the flames were controlled, authorities inspected the car and discovered the bodies of the two teenagers.
