Window smashed to rescue driver trapped in smoking car

Residents smashed a car window to rescue a driver trapped inside the cabin after a 5-seater car crashed into a convenience store on Nguyen Van Cu street and began emitting smoke on the morning of 2/5.

Around 10 a.m., a male driver in a 5-seater car registered in Nghe An was traveling on Nguyen Van Cu street in Thanh Vinh Ward. To avoid a white car moving ahead, the driver swerved, causing the car to crash into a convenience kiosk on the right side of the road.

"I heard a loud engine roar. When the car hit the kiosk, the driver continued to rev the engine for a few seconds before stopping", the convenience store owner said, adding that one adult and two children were sitting inside the kiosk, over 3 m from the door. Fortunately, they were not hit by the car, but falling items caused minor injuries.

After the accident, the driver was trapped inside the 5-seater car's cabin, and white smoke billowed from the engine compartment. The convenience store owner shouted for help, asking neighbors to spray the car with a mini fire extinguisher to prevent a fire.

Many passersby used rocks and hard objects to smash the car's left window to unlock it, freeing the driver in over one minute. The driver was only dazed and suffered minor injuries.

At the scene, the 5-seater car sustained severe front-end damage, with broken headlights and a detached bumper. Several items inside the kiosk, such as a refrigerator, tables, chairs, candies, and helmets, were knocked over and damaged.
