The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that a cold air mass is moving south, expected to first reach the Northeast region on 17/11. It will then expand to the delta and Northwest regions, causing showers and thunderstorms.
US-based Accuweather forecasts Hanoi's temperature today to be 21-28 degrees Celsius, gradually decreasing to 14-18 degrees by the middle of next week. High-altitude areas above 1,500 m, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), will experience the coldest temperatures next wednesday, dropping to 5-10 degrees Celsius.
The North Central region will also be affected by the cold air from 17/11, with lowest temperatures commonly 12-15 degrees Celsius. Some high mountain areas may see temperatures drop below 10 degrees.

The cold air, combined with disturbances in the easterly wind belt, will cause heavy rain from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa. Total rainfall for the entire period, from the night of 15/11 to the end of the night of 18/11, in Hue, Da Nang, eastern Quang Ngai, and Gia Lai is expected to be 300-600 mm, with some localized areas exceeding 800 mm.
From Ha Tinh to Quang Tri, eastern Dak Lak province, and Khanh Hoa, rainfall will be 150-300 mm, with some localized areas over 500 mm. From western Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, rainfall will be 100-200 mm, with some localized areas over 350 mm.
Besides dropping temperatures and causing rain, the cold air front will also bring strong northeast winds, reaching level 3-4 inland and level 4-5 along the coast.
At sea, from the afternoon of 17/11, the Gulf of Tonkin will experience winds of level 7-8, gusting to level 9, with waves 3-5 m high. The northern East Sea will have winds of level 7-8, gusting to level 9-10, with waves 4-6 m high. From 18/11, the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai will see winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, with waves 4-6 m high.
The meteorological agency warns this cold spell could bring frost, affecting livestock, poultry, and crop growth. Heavy rain could cause flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes. Intense rain over a short period could lead to inundation in urban and industrial areas.
