Three food groups to eat for belly fat reduction

Prioritize refreshing, low-sugar fruits and fiber-rich foods to boost hydration and promote satiety, aiding in belly fat reduction during summer.

Doctor Vo Tran Nhu Thao, from the Endocrinology - Diabetes Unit at Tam Anh District 7 General Clinic, highlighted several delicious and nutritious foods that stimulate metabolism, promoting belly fat reduction and weight loss during summer.

Refreshing, low-sugar citrus fruits

Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, and lemons are rich in vitamin C and fiber. Vitamin C supports a healthy immune system while boosting metabolism, leading to more efficient calorie and fat burning.

Fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels, preventing sudden drops or spikes that can lead to cravings and overeating. Fiber also promotes a healthy digestive system, ensuring nutrient absorption and prolonged satiety. These factors contribute to weight loss and belly fat reduction.

Additionally, watermelon is over 90% water and rich in the amino acid arginine, which helps boost fat burning. Berries (strawberries, blueberries) contain high levels of antioxidants, are low in calories, and help quench thirst while increasing satiety, making them suitable snacks for those aiming for weight loss.

Low-calorie green and root vegetables

Green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale are low in calories and rich in fiber, which can help promote satiety, curb cravings, and support weight loss. Antioxidants in these vegetables can aid in burning belly fat and provide essential nutrients for overall health.

Low-calorie root vegetables such as cucumbers and winter melon are cooling, high in water and fiber, helping to prevent excess fat accumulation in the abdominal area. Tomatoes are rich in fiber and lycopene, which boost metabolism and effectively reduce blood fat. Lycopene is an antioxidant that helps reduce inflammation in the body and controls leptin levels – a hormone that regulates appetite.

Protein-rich foods

Chicken breast and fish provide high-quality protein to maintain muscle while burning fat, simultaneously promoting prolonged satiety.

Unsweetened yogurt provides beneficial bacteria (probiotics) that support a healthy digestive system, reducing bloating and abdominal fat accumulation. Especially, yogurt combined with low-sugar fruits makes for a delicious meal that also benefits digestion during hot weather.

Individuals aiming for weight loss should drink enough water to help the body detoxify, improve metabolism, and limit excess fat accumulation. Beyond plain water, green tea or low-sugar lemon water are also suitable choices for summer due to their fat-burning support.

Doctor Thao advises those seeking to reduce belly fat to limit oily foods, sugary sodas, and fast food. These items can easily lead to excess calorie accumulation around the waistline. Additionally, combine healthy eating with light exercise such as walking, cycling, or yoga to achieve a firmer and healthier body.
